Raymond has secured full construction funding for a new high school, one of the key school projects announced for southern Alberta in the provincial budget.
The funding was part of a $372 million province-wide allocation that will see construction or design funding for 10 new schools, 16 replacement schools and seven modernizations.
“Last budget, we announced design funding for a new Raymond High School,” said Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter. “And so that design funding was provided and the design has been done for Raymond and now we’re doing full construction funding for that. So that’s been announced.”
Full construction funding activities include construction and post-occupancy review.
Design funding has been announced for the replacement of Brooks Junior High School in Grasslands School Division, while in Taber there is design funding for the modernization of W.R. Myers High School and D.A. Ferguson Middle School.
“So W.R. Myers and D.A. Ferguson are going to receive design funding for a modernization of those schools. In my riding, we got four schools that had the funding announcements. So usually what happens with that is it depends on how long it takes for them to do their design. Functional design takes usually about a year. So we should be able to see more construction funding for our builders next year.”
Design funding activities include the preparation of construction tender documents such as drawings and specifications.
For Burdett – Bow Island in the Prairie Rose School Division, the province is providing design funding for a “solution” but only included scant details about what that might entail.
Elsewhere in southern Alberta, a school planning program project has been announced for the modernization of Coalhurst High School in Palliser School Division.
Planning funding activities include site analysis and scope development activities.
