The Municipal District of Taber is gearing up for its Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. The venue for this informative gathering will be the Main Operations and Maintenance Facility, which is located just west of Taber on Highway 3.
M.D. Reeve Tamara Miyanaga hopes to see residents from all across the district, stating “We have moved that meeting around from different areas of the municipality to try to ensure we get to meet with residents from all over, but we also want residents from all over the M.D. to come to the meeting as well.”
Miyanaga and M.D. of Taber councillors, along with administration staff will be at the event. Attendees can expect a showcase and overview of the district’s recent developments, ongoing projects, and future plans. Residents are encouraged to attend and engage with the speakers to gain insights into the municipality’s endeavours.
The AGM agenda encompasses various essential topics. To begin, Miyanaga and municipal councillors will provide updates on critical initiatives such as capital projects taking place within the M.D.
The event will also highlight significant legislative efforts, including updates on the Land Use Bylaw Redraft and the Lease Lands Management Plan. Brian Peers, Manager of Municipal Lands & Leases, alongside Development Officer Tom Anderson will give a presentation on the topics.
Transportation is also a key focus, with Corey Greene, Manager of Public Works and Infrastructure, presenting updates on the Transportation Master Plan.
On top of presentations on the Transportation Master Plan, land use bylaw, and land policy, Miyanaga says that attendees will hear about “updates on projects as far as ag services, the operations which are grading and gravelling, recreation, and anything that the M.D. is involved in.”
“Our directors will be there to give an update and council will be there to answer questions.”
An interactive session will follow, allowing attendees to engage directly with presenters and councillors through a live question and answer session. This segment presents an invaluable opportunity for community members to voice their concerns, seek clarifications, and contribute to the dialogue surrounding the district’s governance and development. “We welcome any questions you might have as well as ideas or suggestions that you see as an improvement to the M.D.,” said Miyanaga.
While Miyanaga wants residents to know that they can call their councillors or the M.D. office at any time, she explained how, “this is kind of a one stop update on the M.D. and a place where people can ask their questions.”
Miyanaga expressed how beneficial and important this meeting is for residents to attend, stating “it just provides a very informal face-to-face opportunity to have all the council and all of administration in one place at one time.”
