The following are selected briefs from the Town of Vauxhall Council meeting that took place on September 3.
Bylaw 999-24 – Fee Rates Bylaw – 2nd and 3rd Reading
Council made a motion to give Bylaw 999-24, the Fee Rates Bylaw, 2nd Reading and the motion was carried. Council also made a motion to give Bylaw 999-24, the Fee Rates Bylaw, 3rd and final reading and the motion was carried.
Upcoming Events
Council discussed upcoming events including the Farmer’s Market/Show and Shine that happened from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on September 4, 2024 at the Community Hall; the Farmer’s Market Supper Library Fundraiser that will take place on September 18, 2024 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m at the Community Hall; the 3-day AUMA Convention that will take place from September 25 to September 27, 2024 in Westerner Park; the Annual Pheasant Festival that will take place from October 19 to October 26, 2024 in Taber; and the Christmas Farmer’s Market that will take place on December 7, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Hall. A motion was made to receive all upcoming dates for information and the motion was carried.
Bylaw 955-19 Rates Bylaw – Review
Council reviewed Bylaw No. 955-19, the Community Standards Bylaw, which is to regulate public behavior and activities and parks, boulevards, sidewalks, and other Town-owned property. After discussing the terms associated with the bylaw, a motion was made to receive Bylaw No. 955-19 for information and the motion was carried.
Orange Shirt Day
Council discussed a notification poster they received about how September 30th is the National Day for Truth Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, when everyone is encouraged to wear orange shirts. Council established that although the actual day is a PD Day, the schools are pretty good at choosing a day in lieu so people can wear orange shirts at school. A motion was made to receive the notification poster about Orange Shirt Day for information and the motion was carried.
