With work on the ice arena wrapping it, users could enjoy ice time within a few weeks.

During their regular Oct. 20 meeting, Vauxhall town council received CAO Cris Burn’s report.

For the recreation project update, the floor in the curling rink was poured on Oct. 15, with the contractor sealing up the wall before winter. Burns said he was “quite impressed” how fast they were getting the dasher boards up.

“They had half the glass up today (on Oct. 20),” said Burns. “I talked to members, and I believe they’ll be in the hockey rink by November, the skating rink sometime in December, I’m thinking curling rink before Christmas.”

The Curling Arena lease agreement was accepted with no requested changes and signed by both parties.

The Sanitary project is now completed, with the final payment delivered. Cleanup of the contaminated site is still ongoing, with Burns saying some groundwater testing was being done to finalize a plan for clean-up.

Since modernizing their radio system, the communications towers in the southwest of town is no longer needed by the Municipal District of Taber’s emergency service. The Town of Vauxhall owns the tower, and Burns said they were reaching out to a user to see if they would be interested in purchasing it.
