February has seen a cold streak in the last few weeks, but Central Alberta Hockey League action continues to heat up as playoffs are right around the corner.
Before the biggest games of the year take place though, teams were wrapping up the regular season last weekend, and that included the U11 Vauxhall Sabres who had one final regular season game on tap. On Saturday afternoon, the Sabres saw Redcliff come to town for a matinee. Both teams would battle hard to the final buzzer and the scoreboard showed plenty of offence for each team, but the visiting team would see an 8-7 win in their favour.
The Sabres saw Jhett Stober and Grayson Honess each pot two goals for the team while Cole Bouchard had a goal and an assist, Oakley Wall and Austin Odland also chipped in with a single goal. Nash Stober got the start between the pipes for the Sabres and the goalie would make 17 saves on 25 shots.
The U11 Sabres finished the regular season with a 1-14-1 record and 10.5 points, which saw them finish in eighth place in Tier 3 Blue.
With this past weekend signalling the conclusion of the regular season, the u11 Sabres now shift their focus to the playoffs as they take on the Coaldale Cobras in the first round. Game 1 is in Coaldale on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. with the teams returning for Game 2 in Vauxhall on Sunday at noon.
