Horizon seeing uptick in absences in 2022

While everyone had hoped the majority of COVID-19 would be well behind us in 2022, that hasn’t been the case.

At Horizon School Division, they have seen a slightly higher number of abscesses from teachers and students in the new year. After the provincial government elected to delay the return of students and staff to school by a week after Christmas break, the numbers thankfully hasn’t seen a massive increase in local schools.

“COVID is a big one since our last board meeting. I think all of you are aware of the Omicron variant. School was delayed by a week and ultimately the government opted to send people back to school,” explained Wilco Tymensen, superintendent of schools at the school board’s regular meeting held on Jan. 24.
