Vauxhall prepping for big Canada Day festivities

One of the busiest and most fun days in Vauxhall is fast approaching. With Canada Day on the horizon, plenty will be happening around town for Canada’s birthday. It’s going to be a busy day with activities starting at 8 a.m. and running all the way till dusk.

First up is the pancake breakfast sponsored by the Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce at the Community Hall. Breakfast runs from 8-10 a.m. Next up is the annual Canada Day Parade starting at 11 a.m. If you are participating in the parade, the float line-up begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Vauxhall complex parking lot.

If you’re hungry after the parade, you can head to the South Country Co-op BBQ, starting at 11 a.m. Minimum donation to eat at the BBQ is $2, and all proceeds go towards the Vauxhall Food Bank. The BBQ runs until 1 p.m. at the Co-op food store parking lot.

If cars smashing together is your thing, you’ll want to head north of the community centre for the demolition derby sponsored by the Vauxhall Agricultural Society. Gates will open starting at 12:30 p.m., and there will be food trucks, a beer garden, and kids’ activities. Santeria Taco Truck and Sweet Vibes Candy and Snack Bar will be on the grounds to keep everyone fed. All kids’ activities will be run by Family and Community Support Services (FCSS). The derby will begin at 1 p.m. with admissions set at $10. Kids under five are free.

The fun doesn’t stop after the demolition derby as baseball fans can head over to Jets Stadium for the annual Vauxhall Spurs vs alumni game. First pitch starts at 6 p.m.

Last but not least, fireworks will cap off Canada Day. At dusk, the fireworks will begin and officially end the day’s festivities. For more information on events, keep an eye on the Town of Vauxhall’s Facebook page.
