It was another four-game week for the Vauxhall Spurs as they looked to build off a two-game winning streak. On June 17, the Spurs were on the road as they visited the Medicine Hat Knights for a doubleheader.
Game 1 was all Spurs as they outhit the Knights 18-1 en route to a 14-0 win. All nine hitters in the starting lineup notched a hit. Randon Lauwen hit a double and two singles, Langdyn Cummins had three singles, Roman Pavka, Parker McLaughlin, and Tanner Bullock all hit a double and a single, Sidney Pedersen and Mark Vulcano each had a pair of hits, Roan Bosch hit a triple, and Micah Fontaine had a single. Ryley Jensen took the ball to start and pitched a five-inning shutout with six strikeouts. Jensen would allow one hit and two walks in his start.
After a convincing first game win, the Spurs didn’t slow down in the second game of the evening. With 17 more hits, the Spurs would all over Medicine Hat 16-4. Cummins, McLaughlin, and Cayden Fehr all had three hits, including a double; Jensen had three hits, Bullock had a pair, and Pavka, Pedersen, and Ty Dorin contributed with a hit each. It was Fontaine’s day to start, and he gave the Jets 1.1 innings with four earned runs on three hits and three walks. The starter had one strikeout over his inning and one-third. Vulcano came out of the bullpen and stabilized things with a clean two and two-thirds innings, where he struck out a pair of hitters. Bosch finished the game off with a strong two innings where he punched out four Knights’ hitters.
The Spurs were set to face the Great Falls Chargers at home on Sunday, but the games were cancelled due to rain. Next action is set for Canada Day when the Spurs take on their alumni at Jets Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. After that, the regular season starts this coming weekend again with a pair of doubleheaders. On Friday, the Spurs are in Havre to take on the Northstars. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. On Sunday, they head to Lethbridge for a date with the Miners. Starting at 1 p.m.
