Local councils tour Vauxhall Arena upgrades

MD of Taber Council, alongside Town of Vauxhall Council, recently toured the upgraded Vauxhall Community Centre and Arena, marking the successful completion of the Arena and Curling Club Floor Slab Replacement project. 

Originally constructed in 1978, the facility has been revitalized following approximately seven and half months of construction to address aging infrastructure and improve user safety.

A major focus of the upgrades was replacing the arena’s 46-year-old refrigerated concrete floor. A 2023 assessment recommended replacement of the aging refrigeration system beneath the ice to ensure long-term functionality and safety. The arena now features a new ice surface with widened corners, providing increased playing space for users.

Additional safety and modernization improvements included the installation of new puck boards, plexiglass, and spectator safety netting. The curling club also benefited from much-needed floor slab upgrades, enhancing both safety and longevity. Beyond the arena, the Vauxhall Agricultural Society continues to lead broader renovations aimed at modernizing the community’s rodeo facilities.

The MD of Taber contributed $700,000 toward this important regional project. 

Following the recent explosion at the Taber Community Centre Arena, the Vauxhall facility generously opened its doors to Taber residents, ensuring continued access to ice facilities while the local arena was temporarily out of service. This cooperation underscored the vital role arenas play in recreation, community connection, and local sports.
