M.D. of Taber promoting Nurses Week, May 12 to 18

During the M.D. of Taber Council meeting on April 22, Council reviewed a request from the Alberta Association of Nurse’s to participate in promoting Nurses Week, which is from May 12 to May 18.

In correspondence sent to M.D. of Taber Legislative and Corporate Affairs Officer Lace Lutz, Alberta Association of Nurses Operations Director Terri Shaul stated that National Nurses Week is an opportunity for people to express gratitude and appreciation for the nurses who work tirelessly to ensure everyone’s well-being.

That gratitude, Shaul says, should include celebrating the efforts of nurses by organizing community events such an appreciation lunch, award ceremonies, or public acknowledgments to honor nurses in the area. Other appreciation efforts, Shaul says, can include encouraging community members to share their positive experiences with nurses on social media or through local media; and providing support by offering resources and support to local staff, things like wellness programs, professional development opportunities, or by simply offering ‘a heartfelt thank you.’

“By coming together to recognize the vital role of nurses, we show our appreciation for their dedication and inspire others to pursue this noble profession,” said Shaul. “Let us make National Nurses Week a memorable and meaningful celebration for all the nurses in our communities.”

M.D. of Taber Chief Administrative Officer Arlos Crofts stated that the request was brought forward at the annual organizational meeting.

“I don’t think it’s in dispute at all what nurses bring to our community and to our health care system,” said M.D. of Taber Reeve Tamara Miyanaga. “The proclamation is just to raise awareness. Locally, our home care, our hospital, and all other nurses providing care elevate our health system.”

Deputy Reeve DeGroot then made a motion that the M.D. of Taber proclaim the M.D. of Taber proclaim the week of May 12 to May 18 to be Nurses Week and the motion was carried.
