Town of Vauxhall discusses downtown revitalization

If you’re part of the community of Vauxhall and still want to provide input towards the Town of Vauxhall Downtown Revitalization and Film Readiness Study, the survey will be open until the end of August.

“This is a planning study that looks at the future of downtown Vauxhall and explores opportunities to position the community as a film-friendly location,” said Town of Vauxhall Chief Administrative Officer Cris Burns. “The study will identify practical actions that can help strengthen the downtown and support future economic development.”

The Town of Vauxhall, Burns explained, initiated the project after receiving funding through the Government of Alberta’s Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) program. 

“The project reflects Council’s interest in taking a proactive approach to downtown revitalization and exploring new economic opportunities,” said Burns. “The project reflects Council’s interest in taking a proactive approach to downtown revitalization and exploring new economic opportunities. The goal is to better understand what is working well, where opportunities exist, and what investments could have the greatest impact. The study is intended to provide Council with practical recommendations to help guide future decisions.”

Residents, Burns said, can participate in the study by accessing the survey link included with their recent utility bill, and targeted engagement will also take place with local businesses, property owners, community organizations, and industry stakeholders with details being made available as things are arranged. The findings from the study, Burns noted, will be presented to Council and used to help prioritize future projects, support funding applications, and guide future planning for downtown.

“This is the first time Vauxhall has combined a downtown revitalization study with an assessment of film readiness. Looking at both together provides a broader perspective on future economic opportunities,” said Burns. “Council sees this as an opportunity to better understand the community’s strengths and identify practical projects that can support long-term economic vitality. This study is about understanding where Vauxhall is today and identifying practical steps that can help build on its existing strengths. Downtowns evolve over time, and thoughtful planning helps communities make the most of future opportunities. The study may identify opportunities that strengthen the regional economy, support tourism, and encourage collaboration with neighbouring municipalities. A vibrant downtown benefits more than just one community.”
