Further pool repairs have been pre-approved in Vauxhall’s 2026 budget.
During their regular March 2 meeting, Vauxhall town council discussed repairs need for the town’s pool.
Over the course of 10 years, the liner in the town pool has gotten damaged by individuals throwing rocks into the pool. Town CAO Cris Burns said water leaking behind the liner had increased the amount of damage, and the liner seams have come apart. In order to have to pool ready in time for this year’s pool season, administration is seeking pre-budget approval from council so they can proceed with the repairs.
“We need to be able to get it in the plan before pool season starts,” said Burns. “If it goes through the budget process, then by then we’re shutting down mid-season.”
According to the attached quote for the repair, the repair estimate is $11,849.94. This includes liner removal and preparation, surface preparation, installing the new liner, repairing any holes caused by rocks or winter damage, lane line restoration, and clean-up. Burns noted that while staff knows how to do some repairs to the pool, the damage caused by the original holes had caused more damage that they couldn’t repair themselves.
When asked by Coun. Russell Norris if insurance would cover the repairs, Burns replied “no”. Mayor Kimberly Cawley asked if the warranty covered the seams coming apart, which was also a no. Cawley asked if they could put a notification out asking people to help prevent this issue from happening again.
“This is an issue. Kids throwing rocks, causing damage, it’s costing taxpayers’ money,” said Cawley. “This is something we’re being faced with as an additional expense to keep the pool operational.”
Council passed a motion to adopt the quote and add the pool liner repair and lane restoration project to the budget.
