Traffic Safety, engagement, and property crimes will continue to be Vauxhall’s policing focus for 2026.
During the month of February, the department received 11 calls for service in Vauxhall and five Criminal Code violations. They patrolled Vauxhall 39 times and issued one ticket in town out of a total 88 issued by the RCMP. RCMP Sgt. Stewart Gemmill noted that this number did not include the ones issued by the Taber Police Service or the Alberta Sheriffs.
Compared to the same period last year, there were one fewer persons crimes, a 15 per cent decrease in property crimes (including five more cases of break and enters and three fewer instances of theft of a motor vehicle), and four fewer other Criminal Code violations between the start of January to the end of February. In total, there was a 21 per cent decrease in total Criminal Code cases.
Gemmill asked what Vauxhall council would like to be their priorities for this year. In 2025, it was traffic safety enforcement and education, community relations through visibility and participation, and property crime reduction.
Coun. Russell Norris expressed a continued interest in the traffic focus, noting they still had an issue on people speeding through town. Coun. Shelley Deleeuw noted that she also liked the community relations focus, and Gemmill said they “would keep that up”. Council also expressed interest in keeping the property crimes focus.
Council received the report for information.
